How Do Webcam Models Actually Make Money?

Written By Jordan Keith Topic: Be A Webcam Model, FAQ, Making Money, Webcam Modeling

So if you read “How Much Money Do Webcam Models Make?” the next obvious question is, “how do they actually make that?”

It’s probably better to say, “how do they EARN that money?” As we aren’t actually physically printing money, though it sometimes feels that way.

Our models earn money by delivering a product that customers want. What that product actually is varies from model to model. A lot of people receive the impression that what we do is, “Live Sex Cams”. While that certainly is a big part of what we do, to think that it is ALL we do is a major oversight. Many of our models spend more time in private shows fully dressed, just talking to customers, than they spend naked performing sex/masturbation shows. This is one of the big secrets that most people are never told when applying to be a webcam model. Now you know :).

We help every one of our models determine what the best product they can offer is and then show them how to attract the customers that will want that specific product.

So what are you actually going to be doing to earn money? What will it look like? Is this something you’re actually cool with doing? Let’s dive in and see.

I want to walk you through the typical shift a model works. This should give you some clarity on what the process of making money actually looks like with us.

The first step is to login obviously. Once you are activated you’ll download our broadcasting software that you will use to login to our network. As soon as you login you are inside your chat room and usually within about 30-60 seconds customers will start coming into your room.

There are three levels of customers and they are distinguished by the color of their username.

Grey customers: These are people who do not have an account on our site and are thus unable to spend money. In order for them to spend money they have to first create an account. Because they can’t spend money we encourage people to not spend much time talking to them.

White customers: These are people who have an account and have a credit card on file. They can spend money on you and are who you should focus on attracting.

Gold customers: These are VIP customers. Essentially you will treat them the same as white customers. VIP doesn’t necessarily mean they spend a ton of money. It just means they pay $30/month to have a VIP membership which gives them a few added options in how they use the site.

Once you get into your chat room and have customers coming in you will be talking to them, starting conversations, getting to know them, and figuring out who will actually take you private. We have all sorts of tactics and protocols for this that we teach to our new models.

Most of the money you earn webcam modeling will come from private shows with customers. They pay anywhere from $4-15 per minute depending on your login rate. All new models start out at $6/minute. There are a lot of models on the site in the $4-5 per minute range but we think this is a bit low and as such we don’t have our models work at this level. We prefer to compete for the top rather than the bottom.

At 60cpm you’ll need to spend about 18 minutes in show each hour to make 1,000 credits. Like most things, it’s usually not this cut and dry. You’ll have a series of 3-4 minute shows, especially starting out. And then other times you’ll have much longer shows that last 30 minutes or more.

Once you really get good and have loyal fans you’ll find customers that take you private time after time for hours on end. This is when webcam modeling starts to get really fun :).

There are other ways to make money online apart from private shows. Customers can tip you and send you credit gifts (same thing as a tip basically). There are also two other login types called Party Chat and Group Chat. It’s not in the scope of this article to go into detail on them as they aren’t immediately available to new models. However, once you get access we’ll show you how to use these types to make even more money per hour.

There are two basic skills you’re going to have to learn in order to make a lot of money.

The first is how to work your open chat. We cover this in extensive detail with new models but to give you a teaser some of the things you learn will be:

  • How to get people to stay in your room longer.
  • How to find out who will take you private and who won’t.
  • How to escalate from a casual conversation to a private show.
  • How to get rid of any customers that annoy you.
  • Much much more…

The second relates to how to extend private shows. How to turn a 10 minute private show into an hour long private show and so on. We have a lot of protocols for this as well that we cover with new models. Both lead to our models making a lot of money.

I hope this gives you a clear idea of what a webcam model actually does to make money and also how we train our models. If you’d like to volunteer to take part in some of this training here is a link to our application.

Comment Rules: Please be cool. Being critical is fine, but if you're rude or insulting, we'll delete your stuff. Please use your PERSONAL name or initials and not your business name and do not put your website in the comment text, as both come off like spam. Have fun and thanks for adding to the conversation!

I just wanted to say, that while this is not for me, maybe some years ago, but not now :) I think you have a very detailed and informative website that basically ‘tells it like it is’ and I think that is awesome!!

I think this idea is pretty cool. A good way to stay disease free while having fun. Your site is very informative. It is something I am thinking about trying. There definately will always be a market for pleasure.

I’m male. What if I cannot maintain an erection while on line? ALthough it never has been an issue for me, I’ve never used it to try to make money.

Long story short (no pun intended) it’s something you get used to over time. Most guys don’t really struggle with this after their first few logins.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your comment. I just sent you an email :)

This sounds like a ton of fun and you get to make money how can you beat that? Are there specific hours you have to work to be hired?

Hi Kimber,

No, there aren’t any hour requirements. It’s a work when you want to type of setup.

Cheers :)

I am thinking about doing this because I could really use the money and it beats being a stripper (which I am not) can I be more private with a small mask if I decided to do this? Is there a start up fee?

There is no start up fee.

We also don’t allow masks online. Because we have to be able to tell that it is you on the video, not someone else for legal production purposes.

You can however block any US states and countries that you want :).

i have been researching this for a few months now and considering it heavily, is it possible to become a webcam model and include my guy in while logged in?

Hi Jordan,
I am ready to start asap. I have submitted my app and waiting on response. Is there a time frame that you hear back from you

We can setup couples shows. But it requires both of you having an individual account.

I see that couples need separate accounts to do shows together, would this apply to couples who plan on doing couples shows exclusively? wouldn’t that be a bit of a hassle having to set up a couple’s show every single time they want to make some money

Hey Eddy,

The way couples shows actually work is that we create a third account for the couples to use. If they wanted to they could use only that one and they’d never need to access their individual accounts, they could JUST use the couples account.

Most people want to do a combination of solo work and couples work if they are interested in couples work at all. Either way the way our internal engine works with the network we actually have to setup the individual accounts first and then just use those to make a couples account. For you however, it wouldn’t be any more work. You and your partner would just need to send in a few pictures of you guys together for your couples bio. We’ll handle everything else.

Via email, usually within a few hours.

Via blog comment. Depends on how often I read them :). I’m getting better and better though.

It is something I am thinking about trying, but not sure if it is for me…..

I understand what you mean. If there’s anything we can do to help clarify it for you please don’t hesitate to ask.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that there is no long term commitment so if you want to try it out and decide you don’t like it you can quit anytime.

Best,

Jordan

So to clarify, you earn 6 dollars per minute of a private show, and don’t get paid for the group chats?
And do you guys (the website) deduct any money earned from the models “paycheck” from their private shows, or do we make it in full, if that makes sense?
Im extremly interested in becoming a model for your website, i think your website is very well written and informative!
Just wanted to double-check and understand everything before i apply :)

Hi again,

There is a miscommunication in this post. After re-reading it I realized that the way I wrote things is confusing in the 13th paragraph regarding per minute costs.

This post does a better job of explaining it http://www.pandora-entertainment.com/how-much-money-do-webcam-models-make/

The $4-15 per minute quoted is how much your shows cost to customers, NOT how much the model get’s paid. Models earn a fixed % of that. The full pay scale is available on the link above. The rest of the money goes to the network where it’s used to pay affiliates (the main expense), buy advertising, pay people like me, and keep the site running. New models start out at 22.5% and our pay scale currently goes up to 31%.

I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks.

Okay thanks, so you create your own per minute rate ranging from $4-15 dollars, or is it given to you?

You’ll have a few options depending on what stats you get. Most models only go down to 60cpm ($6). But the longer you’re on the more options that will be added and it’s up to you what level to work at. We’ll offer some advice on where we think you’ll make the most per hour at.

Thanks for the questions! Keep em’ coming if you have any more.
